Have you ever wondered what jewelry would best suit the shape of your face? Well, I did. Read on, and I will share with you what I discovered.
Earrings are very important when it comes to accessories, because they immediately draw attention to your face. Oftentimes, if you have a pair of earrings that you do not think look right on you, it is probably because they are not a type that pairs best with your face shape.
An easy way to determine the shape of your face is to take an eyeliner pencil or lipstick (if you don’t mind cleaning it up afterwards) and tracing the outline of your face on a mirror. It can be rather hard to discern your face shape even by doing that because for example, an oval shape will not have much of a difference compared to a round shape. Use your judgement to select one of the following shapes: diamond, inverted triangle, heart, square, rectangle, oblong, oval, or circle.
If you have a diamond shaped face, then it is a generally good idea to avoid earrings that are diamond shaped. You should be looking for earrings that will balance out your face. Studs or earrings that are close to the ear are good ideas. With a diamond shaped face, your eyes are on the same line as the widest part of your face, therefore, long or top heavy styled earrings are not flattering.
With an inverted triangle shaped face, you should go for earrings that are wider at the bottom as well as earrings that hang away from your face in order to balance your chin out. The difference between a diamond shaped face and an inverted triangle shaped face is that with the diamond shape the forehead tapers and mirrors the shape of the chin, whereas, with the inverted triangle shape the forehead is wider at the top.
For those with a heart shaped face, inverted triangle shaped earrings are the best for creating a balance. People with a heart shaped face have an angular jaw, tapered chin, and wider cheekbones. Earrings that taper at the bottom or studs should be avoided and teardrop shaped earrings are very flattering for this face shape.
People with square shaped faces have angular features. Their jaw, hairline, chin, and forehead make a square shape. If the face is longer but still has the same angles, then the face shape is rectangular. For squares, earrings that are dangly and have dimension such as teardrops or exaggerated shapes are a good choice. For rectangles, earrings that are soft and rounded (meaning no sharp angles) such as ovals and hoops or large studs are going to be the most flattering choices.
Oblong face shapes are very similar to rectangular. The face is narrower and the jaw line is not as sharp, however. Rounded earrings or flashy studs are the best choices for this face shape.
Oval face shapes are just a less angular version of the oblong face shape. Many people believe that an oval shaped face is the most flattering shape to have. Most everything pairs well with this face shape, however, chandelier earrings and most drop earrings tend to be the best when trying to accentuate the shape of the face.
A circle shaped face looks best paired with long, skinny earrings. Earrings that are round such as hoops or other circular shapes should be avoided. The goal with a round face is to add length.
Even if a pair of earrings does not exactly flatter your face shape as much as another pair, that does not mean that you shouldn’t wear them. At the end of the day, the only thing that matters is that you like what you are wearing. The opinion of others does not matter.
